A section of Wipro employees at the company’s Greater Noida unit on Friday morning briefly stalled work after four of their colleagues were injured in a scuffle with company-hired taxi drivers.
The incident took place around 9 am when the employees allegedly picked a fight with the cab drivers over pick and drop facilities, police said.
The injured were admitted to a private hospital in Greater Noida.
Many Wipro employees stay in Delhi, Noida and other parts of NCR and travel to their workplace in Greater Noida in company-hired cabs.
No First Information Report (FIR) was lodged till the filing of this report. The company did not inform the police and no mediaperson was allowed to meet the injured at the hospital.
“Somebody called at emergency number 100. And when we reached the Wipro campus, nobody was interested in talking to us,” said police.
“The fight between the cab drivers and Wipro employees began over cab services. The injured are undergoing treatment at a private hospital. If an FIR is lodged, we will take action,” said Ashok Kumar superintendent of police (rural area), Greater Noida.
Wipro, in an emailed statement, said, “There was a minor disturbance involving a few Wipro employees of our Noida facility and staff of our transport vendor, outside the campus,” reported Press Trust of India.
The company will cooperate with local authorities in the investigation and operations remain normal at the facility, the company said.
