Be a part of the ‘Toilets are Beautiful’ campaign by showing some squat love

You may have texted or spoken on phone while sitting on the toilet seat, but how about getting yourself clicked on one, that too in a public place? That’s the concept of this one of its kind campaign, that kicked off in the city last week. Called Toilets Are Beautiful, this online campaign accompanies the Nirmal Bharat Yatra and seeks to build awareness of sanitation and hygiene in urban India.

The process is simple. The campaign, which concludes on November 28, includes the world’s longest toilet sit-in or the big squat. People can spot these toilet seats at major areas including Dilli Haat and Connaught Place, get themselves clicked on these toilet seats wearing crazy props such as over-sized sunglasses, funky hats and costumes, and then pledge their support to sanitation on Facebook by logging on to the campaign’s page then and there. The campaign has been conceptualised by Wash United and Quicksand. “Whenever one talks of toilets, we only end up thinking of filth and dirt. This way we can get the urban audiences talk and think about the problem of sanitation in India,”, says Nirat Bhatnagar of Quicksand the brain behind the campaign.

Operating through Facebook, the aim of the campaign is to gain maximum number of likes and break the record by Lil Wayne, who holds the record of maximum likes — 5,88,000. “We want to gain 6,26,000 likes on our page. The number resembles 626 million people in India who don’t have proper sanitation facilities. The campaign will just act as a ladder of commitment,” he adds. Check
