A 25-year-old woman, who was returning to her southwest Delhi residence from work, was allegedly kidnapped by a gang on Thursday evening.
Police said the woman, a data operator at a private firm in Gurgaon, was waylaid and pulled inside a moving car by a gang near Hanuman Temple at Chhawla in Qutub Vihar Chowk around 7 pm.
Police said the victim’s father, who works as a contractual labourer, learnt about the incident from neighbours. Her father claimed that the police did not turn up at his residence even after a PCR call was made and he had to go to the Chhawla police station to get a complaint registered.
The alleged lethargy in registering the complaint by the local police forced more than a hundred residents to come out on streets to protest on Friday morning, spelling chaos for commuters travelling from Chhawla to Janakpuri. “We assured the crowd, which included the victim's father, that we were looking into the matter and would rescue her at the earliest,” the officer said, adding that a case had been registered.
