A 22-year-old woman, working in a call centre in Gurgaon, has lodged a complaint at Ambedkar Nagar police station alleging that she was being raped by an Indian Army officer on the pretext of marrying her.

The woman also alleged that a few weeks ago she was abducted and taken to Punjab by the accused and there she was raped again, the police said on Friday.

On the basis of her complaint, a case under sections 376 (rape) and 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage) of the IPC has been registered.

The police have also constituted a team to trace the accused, Raman Rana, 25, as named in the FIR by the woman. Rana is from Bhatinda in Punjab and is an officer in the Indian Army. The woman, however, does not know the post the accused holds in the army.

The woman is from Haryana’s Faridabad and stays in a rented accommodation in south Delhi’s Madangir. In her complaint to the police she said she had first met Rana in a Jammu-bound train three years ago. She was going to Vaishno Devi with her family members.

“During the journey, Rana was seated in the same compartment as the woman’s family. The two had an informal conversation in the train and before de-boarding the train, Rana left his contact number in a piece of paper for the woman,” said a police officer quoting the woman’s complaint.

After returning from Vaishno Devi, the woman contacted Rana on the given phone number. The two became friends during their constant telephonic conversations and also met each other on several occasions.

“Rana established physical relations with the woman after promising her that he would marry her soon. He also took her to Punjab and had physical relations against her wishes while staying in a guest house there. A few weeks ago, Rana told her that he could not marry her and from there on he started ignoring her calls. At last, the woman found herself cheated and lodged a case against him,” the officer added.
