A woman from Inderpuri in Southwest Delhi has alleged six policemen raped her inside a police station on Monday afternoon. She has also named the Station House Officer (SHO) of the police station as one of the accused.
Taking note of the incident, the Delhi government has directed the Women’s Commission to probe the matter.
Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said they have received the preliminary medical examination report. “It says there is no injury mark on the body of the victim,” Bhagat said.
Though a case is yet to be registered, Delhi Police transferred the investigation to the Crime Branch besides transferring SHO Pradeep Kumar to Police Lines.
According to the woman (28), two constables from Inderpuri Police Station came to her house and asked about the whereabouts of her husband around 9:45 a.m. on Monday.
The police said her husband Dheeraj Kumar is a local criminal and a known bookie.
“When I said I did not know where my husband was, they asked me to come to the police station. There they started misbehaving with me inside the lock up and then molested me. Then they took me upstairs to a room where they raped me. There were six uniformed policemen including the SHO,” the woman alleged.
The woman said she told her husband about the incident after she reached home and he took her to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Kannan Jagdishan said since the woman had not approached police regarding the rape allegation they could not record her statement.
Neeraj Thakur, DCP (Crime), said they would register a case after ascertaining the facts.
However, the police spokesman said the woman’s vaginal swab has been preserved and would be sent to forensic laboratory in Rohini for further tests.
