A 35-year-old woman was beaten up by her neighbours and her face blackened with ink on Sunday for allegedly trying to push a Delhi University student into flesh trade. The incident was reported from west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar.
No FIR, however, had been filed till late on Sunday evening with the police claiming that they had received complaints from both the parties.
The woman who was beaten up, they said, had claimed innocence and has told the police she was assaulted by the girl’s family and neighbours unprovoked.
A senior police officer too said that there was no evidence so far of the said woman’s role in trying to push the girl into flesh trade or her running a sex racket.
The allegations of the DU student are being verified. The woman is separated from her husband and lives in the same neighbourhood where the DU student lives with her family.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the DU student was looking for a job when she got in touch with the woman who promised to help her regarding the same. On March 9, the woman called her to a flat where they stayed together for a couple of days. The DU student returned home on Thursday but did not tell her family anything.
On Sunday morning, she told her family members that the woman was trying to push her into flesh trade and while staying with her she had heard her speaking over phone to someone about sending her to customers for paid sex, said the officer.
“The girl’s family and some neighbours immediately walked over to the woman’s house and allegedly beat her up before smudging her face with black ink,” said the officer. He added that they were also probing why the DU student kept quiet after returning home on Thursday.
