A 24-year-old woman, who suffered critical burn injuries after the kerosene stove on which she was preparing tea exploded at her in-laws’ house a month ago, succumbed to her injuries at the Lok Nayak Hospital on Monday night.
The police registered a case of dowry harassment after the victim, in her statement before a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), had alleged that she
was harassed by her in-laws for dowry.
The deceased, identified as Sukhvinder Kaur, lived with her in-laws at Sardar Colony in Sector 16, Rohini. The incident took place on November 10.
In her statement, the victim had allegedly accused her husband and in-laws of physically assaulting her as she did not accept their demand of getting a share in her father’s property.
She had also alleged that her husband, Amarjeet Singh, used to thrash her frequently for not asking her father to hand over his four-wheeler to him.
A police officer said, “Since Kaur’s marriage with Singh took place three years ago, an SDM inquiry has been ordered.”
