The Apex Court on Friday got a lady judge after a gap of almost four years.
CJI K.G. Balakrishnan administered the oath of office to Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra and two other judges — Justice H.L. Gokhale and Justice A.R. Dave at a ceremony in the Supreme Court.
Justice Mishra is the fourth lady judge in the history of the court, which has had only three women judges so far. Justice Fathima Beevi was appointed as the first woman judge of the SC in 1989. She was followed by Justice Sujata V Manohar.
The third lady judge in the SC was Justice Ruma Pal, who was appointed in the Golden Jubilee year of SC in 2000.
