A 22-year-old woman executive tried to commit suicide by jumping off the third floor of Sahara Mall on MG Road on Sunday.
According to police officials, the woman, who worked with a software company in Sector 18 as a receptionist, had also slit her veins before the attempt.
The woman, Kanika Chandok, has been admitted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital at Sushant Lok.
Chandok suffered serious injuries on face, head and limbs. According to doctors treating her, Chandok has not regained her consciousness. The police would record her statement once she becomes fit.
According to police, Chandok is a resident of Palam Vihar. Her father is a manger in a nationalised bank at Aligarh.
Neither the police nor the relatives of the woman are in position to comment on the reasons of her attempting to commit suicide. The police have recovered the blade as well as two mobiles phones from the site.
According to a security guard, Shivaji Rajesh, before taking the extreme step Kanika was talking to someone over mobile. “The incident happened around 2pm. She was very emotional and was crying,” he said.
Rajesh said Chandok’s face hit the ground and was rushed to Umkal Hospital from where she was referred to Paras Hospital at Sushant Lok.
She jumped off from a window overlooking the MG Road and landed on a passage that is used by vehicles to enter the parking area.
Fortunately, she did not fall on a moving car.
No one could explain why Kanika visited Sahara Mall where she used to work as a receptionist with a company about three months ago. Currently, she was employed with Hughes in Sector 18.
