A 22-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping off the Dilshad Garden metro station in north east Delhi to the road below on Tuesday afternoon.

The woman was identified as Meenakshi, a resident of Bulandshahr district in Uttar Pradesh. She was currently residing at Sonia Vihar in North Delhi with her brothers at a rented house.

“She with her elder brother had entered the metro station when suddenly, around 3.10pm, she jumped off platform number 2 of the elevated station to the road,” said a police officer. “She was talking on the phone before attempting suicide.”

She was rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital by the police where she succumbed to her injuries around 4pm, police said.

“No suicide note was found on her,” said police.

The CCTV footage showed Meenakshi climbed on to a platform railing and then jumped.

Family members told the police that she was in a state of depression as she and her kin were thrown out of the village after she married a man from a different caste.
