A day after a private bank employee allegedly facing dowry harassment by her in-laws ended her life by jumping off the MG Road Metro station in Gurgaon, another distressed woman committed suicide by jumping from Kirti Nagar Metro station in the Capital.
Aarti, 27, wife of a warrant officer in Indian Air Force, was being harassed allegedly by her husband Anil Yadav, who was demanding a Swift Dzire car from her family. Her parents had given him a Santro car when the two got married two and half years ago, a senior police officer said.
BS Gujjar, additional DCP (railways), said Aarti bought a ticket and gained normal entry into the station.
"Eyewitnesses said she landed head first on the road below which caused severe injuries and excessive bleeding. She was immediately rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries," he said. Aarti is survived by her 15-month-old child.
"Preliminary investigations have revealed that Aarti, was being harassed for dowry by her in-laws which forced her to take the extreme step. A case has been registered in this regard," the officer said.
