A 38-year-old woman, apparently upset after her husband berated their daughter for not doing well in her exam, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her home in west Delhi’s Vikaspuri on Sunday.
According to police, the victim was upset also because her husband had decided to keep their daughter at his sister’s home in Paschim Vihar.
The victim, Tejender Kaur, was found hanging by her 10-year-old son and neighbours after they broke open the door of the house.
A police officer said Kaur’s husband Jasbir Singh had left the house in the afternoon with his 14-year-old daughter and son. In the evening, the officer said, his son returned home and found the door bolted from inside.
“He became worried when his mother did not open the door. He told his neighbours about this. They later broke open the door and found Kaur hanging from a ceiling fan,” the senior officer said.
“Kaur wanted Singh to provide a home tutor for their daughter as she was weak in science, while Singh had decided to shift her to his sister’s house,” the officer said, adding that no suicide note was recovered from Kaur’s possession.
