A 54-year-old widow, who was living alone at her Shalimar Bagh residence, was found dead with multiple stabs on her body on Saturday morning.

The police suspect personal enmity as the reason behind the murder, though cash and jewellery worth lakhs are also missing from her house.

The police said Anita Gupta worked at a jewellery store in the area and was living alone on the ground floor in AN-Block in Shalimar Bagh.

A case of murder has been registered and an investigation has been started.

The police said the incident came to light around 9:30 on Saturday morning when a relative of the deceased went up her house and found the main gate of the house was ajar.

“As he entered the house, he called out for Gupta but there was no response. He then went to her bedroom and found her body covered in blood, beside the bed,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

The victim’s relative immediately called the police and the victim was taken to a hospital where she was declared brought dead.

The police are suspecting the involvement of an insider in the incident as the entry into the house was friendly. The police said the almirahs, from which cash and jewellery were taken, were also opened with their original keys.

The victim’s only daughter is married with two children.
