A 14-year-old girl was gang raped while a 23-year-old woman was attacked with a knife by a man whom she had jilted, in separate incidents of crime against women reported in the capital till Saturday, police said.
In the first incident, the minor victim, who had been missing for three days from her west Delhi residence, was recovered from Uttar Pradesh where she claimed to have been lured to, and subsequently sexually assaulted, on the pretext of marriage.
"The accused, Arvind, 22, has been arrested and a case has been registered against him. The victim resides in Nihal Vihar and had gone missing on March 11," said an officer.
After being recovered, the victim told the police that she had known Arvind for some time and that he took her to Uttar Pradesh on the pretext of marriage.
Soon after they had crossed the border, Arvind, who is already married, took her to a secluded spot where one of his associates was already waiting for them, the police claimed.
"The men then sexually assaulted her. A medical examination has been carried out and confirmed rape. Arvind's associate will be nabbed soon," the officer added.
In another incident. Puja, who is pursuing her class twelve through correspondence, was attacked with a knife by her lover Sandeep, 26, at east Delhi's GTB enclave area around 8:50 pm on Friday evening.
"The victim received injury marks on her face and was rushed to a nearby hospital where her condition is stated to be out of danger. A case of attempt to murder has been registered," said an officer.
The police are yet to ascertain the precise trigger behind the attack.
Initial investigation has revealed that the couple had been in love for a few months till recently they called off their relationship.
