A Manipuri woman in her early 20s has filed a rape case against her boyfriend in south Delhi’s Vasant Vihar police station, police said on Friday. The victim’s boyfriend is also from Manipur and they were reportedly in a live-in relationship for the past six years.

In her complaint, the woman alleged that her boyfriend exploited her sexually and physically while they were in the live-in relationship. He allegedly raped her several times on the pretext of marriage.

When she got pregnant and started pressuring him to marry her, the youth refused to do so and abandoned her, said a police officer.

On the basis of her complaint, a case under section 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) was filed at the Vasant Vihar police station against the accused. The accused was arrested on Friday and was produced before a city court that sent him to Tihar Jail till September 5.

According to a police officer, the matter came to light on Thursday evening when the victim’s live-in partner fled from the residence. The victim approached the local police and filed a rape case against him. The members of the local NGO was called to the police station for counselling the woman.

“The woman however insisted to get an FIR lodged against him. She was taken to a government hospital for medical examination that confirmed rape. Accordingly, a case was registered and the accused was arrested,” the officer said.
