A 22-year-old woman on Monday claimed that she had been raped by her husband and two of his friends in east Delhi’s Anand Vihar, the police said.

The police said the incident occurred while the victim was returning home after visiting a mall in east Delhi.

According to the woman’s statement, her husband and his two friends kidnapped her and then raped her in a moving car. “The accused allegedly injured the victim brutally and then dumped her by the roadside in an unconscious state,” said a police officer.

“The three took turns to rape the victim inside the car and also allegedly inserted candles into her private parts,” the officer claimed.

He added that the woman in her statement also mentioned that her husband throughout the ordeal kept claiming that she was being punished for pursuing police complaints against him and his family.

The victim in her statement has claimed that she was dumped near an isolated spot in an unconscious state. She, later, somehow managed to contact her family members upon regaining her senses and also alert the police.

Police officers claimed that though they had registered a case against the three accused and launched a manhunt, they had found several discrepancies in the victim’s statement.

“The woman has claimed to be 22-years-old while her marriage certificate shows that she is 26,” said a police officer.

According to the victim, the couple was neighbours in east Delhi’s Ram Nagar and had married about a year ago. They, however, had a fall out almost a month into their marriage due to frequent fights and began living separately in Shahdara area.

“The victim has been trying to seek divorce from her husband and has accused him of kidnapping and attempting to murder her in a complaint at Ghaziabad’s Vijay Vihar police station,” said a police officer.
