Labourers halted renovation work at the Talkatora stadium on Sunday morning demanding better wages.
The stadium, being renovated for the Commonwealth Games 2010, is being upgraded by the Central Public Works Department. The deadline for it is June 30.
Trouble started when a group of labourers stopped work and demanded more pay. “We were being paid Rs. 200 per day earlier, but now it has come down to Rs. 150,” said Harish, one of the workers.
A senior CPWD official, who didn't wish to be identified, said that only a handful of workers were protesting and the renovation is still on.
