Even the homes of bureaucrats in the high-security Lutyens' Delhi are not safe from thieves and burglars who seem to have been striking at will in the city. This time, the miscreants targeted the residence of CPM leader Sitaram Yechury's personal secretary (PS).
A gang of unidentified burglars barged into the house of Konduri Veeraiah, PS to Yechury, and decamped with Rs 5,000, mobile phone, some kitchen items, among other belongings. Veeraiah, along with his family, had gone to Andhra Pradesh when the burglary took place at his 29 Ferozshah Road residence, the police said.
The incident came to fore on January 31 after Veeraiah's wife Thulasita Yedlaa lodged a complaint in regard to the burglary at the Tilak Marg police station.
"Yedlaa in her complaint told us that they had gone to Andhra Pradesh for 10 days and the house was properly locked. When the family returned on January 30, they found the doors of the kitchen and the bathroom open and the house ransacked," said the officer.
"We have prepared a list of people, other than the family members, who have access to the house. The local criminals are also being questioned in the case," the officer added.
This is the second incident within a week in which the miscreants have targeted the house of a bureaucrat in Lutyens' Delhi. On January 23, a Hyundai i10 car owned by R Murlidharan, a senior officer in the ministry of defence, was stolen from the parking of his residence in Tughlaq Road area.
