Residents in north and northwest Delhi now have an unusual tool to claim huge discounts on the purchase of electrical appliances — the electricity bill.
To encourage energy efficiency, the Tata-backed North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL) has decided to push the sales of appliances rated through the star system of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency.
It is a unique exchange programme that allows consumers to get their old air conditioners and refrigerators replaced for new ones at heavy discounts.
All one needs is the latest electricity bill of NDPL.
"The star rated energy efficient appliances help save energy and we are confident that our consumers will not only benefit from this scheme but also actively contribute in combating climate change,” said an NDPL spokesman.
The scheme is valid till October 31, 2011, at selected outlets of LG, Voltas and Godrej in north and northwest Delhi areas. The details of the participating outlets are available on NDPL website —www.ndpl.com
The discom has negotiated with popular manufactures of appliances to get the maximum discounts. While exchange of old products anyway knocks off some amount from the retail price of the new product, NDPL consumers will get additional discounts, thanks to this scheme.
"So the purchase of an AC, for instance, will lower the price further by a few thousand rupees more. The discount rate can go up to 15%," said the spokesman.
