One of the theories suggests that Jitender Tomar committed suicide after pumping a bullet into the girl's body at her house, as investigators have found some evidence pointing to his presence in her house in the morning.

Contrary to the theory, Tomar's family members have alleged that the two were shot either allegedly by someone from the girl's family or by a third party. Investigators are now waiting for the girl to regain consciousness and give her statement, said a police officer. Tomar, a Class 10 graduate, is survived by his parents and four siblings.

Sources said the police came to know about the incident around 6.30am after some local children discovered the body of a youth lying at an isolated plot in New Chauhanpur Colony. A live cartridge and a country made pistol of .315 bore was found near the body.

"After an hour, the victim was identified as Tomar, who lived some metres away from the spot where his body was found. Around the same time, we received a call about the 16-year-old girl admitted to the hospital with a bullet injury. A team reached the hospital and her family members raised suspicion about Tomar by accusing him of harassing the girl," a senior officer said.

Another team, the officer said, reached the girl's house in Rama Garden and during the inspection of the crime spot, Tomar's pair of slippers were found in the girl's house. A thin red rope was hanging from the girl's room, indicating that Tomar may have entered her room using the rope.

Tomar's father Raju, however, dismissed the theory saying Tomar could not have climbed the girl's house wearing slippers using the thin rope. The girl's father, Virender Yadav, said, "Around 5.30 am, she rolled over the stairs screaming for help and fell unconscious on the floor and we took her to the hospital."

The senior police officer said, "We are waiting for the forensic reports and other investigation reports before making any comment on the matter. The post-mortem examination will be conducted on Monday."
