A 21-year-old man was knifed to death and his friend injured by members of a local gang metres away from a north Delhi police station on Friday night.
The police have arrested two men and three children in connection with the murder.
The murdered youth has been identified as Deepe, a resident of the Basti Julhan.
He and friend Lakhan were attacked by the gang at a juice shop outside the Sadar Bazar police station around 10.30pm.
“It’s a case of personal enmity. Two of the assailants had a tiff with Deepe earlier when their bikes brushed each other in a by-lane,” said a senior police officer. “In the evening, they demanded that Deepe and Lakhan treat them at the juice shop.”
Deepe and Lakhan resisted, triggering an argument between the duo and the gang. In the violence that followed, Deepe fell after he was stabbed by one of the gang members, the police said. Deepe was rushed to the Lady Hardinge Hospital and declared dead on arrival by doctors.
He was stabbed right below the heart and had died reportedly of severe blood loss on the spot. “Lakhan was stabbed too, but was declared fit after being administered minor medical aid,” the officer said.
