A 62-year-old man was among five of a family beaten up by four youths who had allegedly misbehaviour with his daughter in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar. Police have detained the youths for questioning after a complaint was lodged by the girl’s father. The youths were identified as Pramod, Raghu, Surender Khurana and Dipak.
The complainant, Ramesh Karwal, reportedly told the police that he was returning home after work when his daughter told him that four youths of the same locality had passed lewd comments while she was on her way to a grocery shop.
“Karwal became angry and he confronted them. An argument ensued, but local residents intervened to broker peace. When Karwal and his daughter were walking back to their home, the four youths caught up with them and threatened that they would make his family pay,” the officer said.
Around an hour later, the officer said, the four youths arrived at Karwal’s home with batons. Karwal claimed that Raghu and Dipak overpowered him while the other two attacked him with batons.
“Raghu attacked Karwal with a sharp object. Karwal’s family members tried to save him but they were also beaten up by the four youths. The victims started screaming for help after which the four disappeared,” said the officer.
