After declaring that it will fight the Delhi Assembly polls with public donation, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is now asking people to donate spare used cars, laptops and mobile handsets among other things.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led party has put out a word asking people to donate for “three-four months” their spare cars, mobile sets, laptops and office furniture, etc., for its 70 offices across as many Assembly constituencies in Delhi.

“These — especially used handsets, used laptops, etc., — are needed for volunteers coming from outside Delhi,” party spokesperson Manish Sisodia said.

AAP has already launched a donation drive for financing at least R14 lakh per constituency, which is the legally-permissible limit for a candidate’s expenditure during poll campaign. There are a few constituencies where the party’s candidates are taking care of their own expenses but for the rest, the party is pitching in with public donation.

Scores of people from outside Delhi have registered with AAP for volunteering during the Assembly elections. “More than 2,000 have already registered with us and most are working in different Assembly segments,” Sisodia said.

“These volunteers, most of whom are new to the national These volunteers, most of whom are new to the national Capital, need help in driving around in a constituency assigned to them. Also, as most of them have decided to “give time” for three to four months, they will need a Delhi SIM for communicating. Party offices at different constituencies and wards need tables and chairs. We are seeking donation from people who have all such things to spare,” he added.

Sisodia said the number of volunteers would grow exponentially by mid-October when the campaigning for polls in November would be at its peak.
