Wearing his quentissential ‘Main Aam Aadmi Hoon’ cap, Arvind Kejriwal greeted people at Lodi Garden on Sunday morning.

With several supporters in tow, the Aam Aadmi Party leader sought votes from the people who reached the garden for a morning walk. Kejriwal, who had announced he would take on chief minister Sheila Dikshit in a direct contest, will be AAP candidate from New Delhi constituency — which is represented by the Delhi CM in the current assembly.

Later in the day, the AAP leader addressed a public rally at Jantar Mantar attended by a large number of battery rickshaw operators. They not only voiced their concerns but also extended their full support by joining the party in large numbers, a statement said.

Criticising the transport department for targeting battery rickshaws, the operators said e-rickshaws were one of the most eco-friendly and convenient modes of transport. However, lack of a policy was affecting the lives of more than 50,000 rickshaw operators’ families, they said.

Kejriwal said, “We fully support the demands of these operators and will stand by them till the issue is sorted out.”

He dismissed rumours that some auto-rickshaw drivers unions had left AAP.

In the evening, Kejriwal rushed to RK Puram to address three back-to-back rallies along with Shazia Ilmi, the party’s candidate for that constituency.
