There is good news from the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) as far as their latest placement results are concerned. Adding yet another feather to its cap and inching closer to achieving global recognition in terms of top accreditations and rankings, IIM Calcutta has placed over 450 students of the batch of 2014-16, one of the largest across all IIMs, in a record time of just over 2.5 days.
Detailed analysis has revealed that a phenomenal 378 offers (more than the batch size of many prominent IIMs) were made in slot 0 — consisting of day 0 and day 1 — which is an all-time record across the IIMs. This has also been a clear indication of the overall optimism prevailing in the economy and the superior quality of student inflow into the institute. Some of the major recruiters included Moelis & Co, Roland Berger and Alvarez & Marsal.
The consulting domain had the highest number of offers at 38 which were made by McKinsey & Company, BCG, Bain & Company and AT Kearney, the highest in the last three years. Roland Berger, Europe’s top consulting firm recruited from IIM Calcutta for the first time.
Bullish hiring by the finance firms was also seen with leading banks like Citibank, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, and Bank of America recruiting for their front-end investment banking, private equity and global markets and corporate banking roles.
Professor Rajiv Kumar, placement chairperson of IIM Calcutta, says, “The continued faith of recruiters in our students’ quality has encouraged all of us. But we will continue to work hard and strive to achieve even better results in the future.”
The first cluster of the summer internship placement process for the PGP batch of 2014-16 at IIM Ahmedabad also concluded recently. More than 30 firms participated in cluster 1. Accenture Strategy and The Boston Consulting Group were jointly the top recruiters with 16 offers each. The other prominent recruiters in the consulting domain included AT Kearney, Bain & Co, McKinsey and Co, Monitor Deloitte and Strategy& etc. Investment banks and investment management firms included Barclays, Citi, Standard Chartered among others. Macquarie Group recruited for the first time from IIM Ahmedabad. The second cluster consisted of six cohorts: banking and financial services, consumer goods, consumer services, global technology firms, general management and niche consulting.
Overall, there were more than 40 firms that participated in the process. IIM Bangalore successfully placed 400 PGP students for summer internships to be taken in April-May 2015. A total of 130 recruiters visited the campus. According to Professor Sankarshan Basu, chairperson, career development services, “The current summer placements once again reaffirm the confidence of the recruiters in meeting their demand for talent with students from IIMB. This sentiment was echoed by global recruiters, large Indian corporate bodies as well as new age enterprises alike.”
