The West Bengal board declared the Class 10 exam (popularly known as Madhyamik exam) results on Friday. It has recorded an overall pass percentage of 82.66%.

A total of 10, 26, 877 candidates took the exam out of which 475, 287 were boys and 551, 590 were girls. The success rate among male students was 86.61% while among female candidates it was 79.12%. The overall pass percentage last year was almost the same at 82.24%. The pass percentage among physically challenged candidates was 90.92%.
The most successful districts in terms of pass percentages is East Midnapore (94.70%) followed by Kolkata (91.41%) and South 24 Parganas at 90.31%.
This year 29 convicts and undertrials had also written the examination from behind the bars. All of them have passed the exams. They had appeared from Alipore Central Jail (six candidates), Alipore Women's jail (two), Presidency Jail (four), Jalpaiguri Central jail (15) and Suri District jail (two).
"There has been a 100% success rate of the candidates who appeared for the test from five jails of the state. They have proved that the urge for education is not confined to nromal schools only," said Kalyanmoy Ganguly, administrator of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.
