CBSE Class 10 result 2018: Nearly two lakh students scored over 90% in Maths
CBSE Class 10 result 2018: According to data shared by CBSE, 199,884 students scored 90 and above marks in the Mathematics paper.
Nearly two lakh or 12.5 % students scored 90% and above in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) class 10 Mathematics paper that was leaked on social media along with the class 12 Economics paper. Over 16 lakh students took the rest.
The board decided not to conduct a retest for the class 10 Mathematics paper in the “interest of students”, saying it is largely an internal examination of the school education system.
The board, however, did conduct a retest of the class 12 Economics paper. It said the exam is a gateway to higher education and professional exams, which have limited seats.
The 2017-18 batch of students are the first batch to attempt the reintroduced CBSE compulsory class 10 exams.
The board had replaced the compulsory exams with a Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system of assessment in 2009 and had made the class 10 exam optional.
Students had the option to either attempting the school-based or board-based final exam. Instead of marks, students were given grades.
According to data shared by CBSE, 1,99,884 students scored 90 and above marks in the Mathematics paper.
In 2017, when students used to get grades, 1,89,890 students had scored A1 grade, which is equivalent to 90 and above.
“The number of students with 100 marks in Mathematics is 3,131. The highest number of perfect scorers is for Social Sciences, in which 6,469 students secured 100 marks,” a CBSE official said.
The board exams were marred by controversy this year with incidents of leakage of the class 10 Mathematics paper and the class 12 Economics paper on social media in different parts of the country, including Delhi.
The class 12 Economics paper, held after a retest, recorded a pass percentage of 83.40%, a jump of over 3 percentage points from last year. Between 5 and 6 lakh students sat for the class 12 Economics retest.
The pass percentage for class 12 Economics paper for this year is 83.4% as against last year’s 80.24%, a CBSE official said. The official said the number of students scoring 100 marks in the Economics paper this year is 1,659.
