In any activity that one engages in or plans to pursue, the critical point is whether one has the confidence to be able to carry it out or not. For any individual, the lack of confidence can be a significant deterrent in the way one moves through the different phases of life. So, how do you build the confidence to charge ahead? Here are some tips
1 Recognise your strengths: Identify your skills and strengths that you can utilise in life to achieve your goals and vision. Work on tasks and targets by utilising your strengths such that you achieve success.
2 Accept your limitations: Each individual has his or her limitations, both personal and in terms of material resources. Work while keeping these in mind such that one can compensate for the deficits.
3 Work within your limits: It is very important to learn to work within your limits so as to avoid unnecessary stress and pressure. It helps to ensure that one is able to focus on what is important.
4 Never compare: Comparisons do not help. They only create a sense of unhappiness and dissatisfaction. They bring to light the things that one wants but cannot have. Instead, focus on the self.
5 Remember the good things: More than looking for appreciation from outside, it is imperative that one gives oneself a positive stroke. Use positive self-statements and remind yourself of your achievements.
6 Do not avoid problems: Even though you may feel that situations far exceed your capacity and abilities to be able to deal with them, try and not avoid all of them. Sometimes, it is better to take hurdles head-on.
7Always be prepared: It certainly helps to be mentally prepared for different situations so you can deal with them effectively.
8 Have a problem-solving approach: The more you delay acting on a situation requiring your attention, the more difficulties associated with it will crop up. Instead, follow a problem-solving approach.
9 Have a good social support system: A good social support network is very important in helping one tide over the difficulties in life. Our people can continuously boost our confidence and make us feel more self-assured about what we want to and need to do.
10 If you feel low, talk to an expert: Talking to an expert is an absolute must, particularly when one starts to realise that challenging situations are affecting one's moods and making one doubt oneself.
