The civil services aptitude test (CSAT) row may continue as Arvind Varma committee report is learnt to have backed UPSC's contention that it is too late now to postpone the examination scheduled for August 24.

The report has not favoured any significant changes in the CSAT format.

Recommending status quo, the three-member committee is understood to have said the CSAT is a 'scientifically approached' paper and it should not be tampered with.

It however has recommended an improved English-Hindi translation for the paper.

Scores of civil services aspirants have been protesting against the CSAT alleging the paper was biased against those who took the examination in Hindi and regional languages.

The issue has rocked Parliament in the last few days with Opposition parties attacking the government for its inability to reach an amicable solution.

On Friday, both the Houses of Parliament saw Opposition parties taking on the government over the issue.

"This is a very sensitive issue and the government should have shown some sensitivity in dealing with it," former Union minister and Rajya Sabha MP (Congress) Ashwani Kumar said.

SP leader Naresh Agarwal said the Centre was misleading the students by not giving any specific time frame to sort out the issue.

Reply to the Opposition attack Union home minister Rajnath Singh said government has taken the ongoing agitation by UPSC aspirants on the issue very seriously and is studying all aspects.

"Government has taken the issue very seriously and is considering every aspect. The report has been given by the Committee on the issue only a day ago. The report is being studied. Government wants this to be resolved as soon as possible," Singh told the Rajya Sabha.
