The cutoffs for Commerce and Economics observed increase as compared to last year’s in most colleges in the range of 0.25-1 percentage points.

In 2015, the highest cutoff for BCom (Honors) was 98 % at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, College of Vocational Studies and Lady Sri Ram College for Women (LSR).

At LSR, BCom (Honors) and Economics (Honors) remained same as last year at 98%. At Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College, the cutoff for BCom (Programme) was at 98.75% while for BCom (Honors) it was 98%.

For any student who wants to study a subject which she has not studied in Class 12, there will be a deduction of 2.5 percentage points in her required percentage. For example, if a Science or Humanities student has scored 98% and wants to study Commerce at Ramjas College, her effective score will be cut down to 95.5 %.

It is not just the popular colleges which have high cutoffs but even in evening colleges BCom (Programme), BCom (Honors) and Economics (Honors) were above the mark of 90%.

At Acharya Narendra Dev College BCom (Honors) was at 95%. At Kalindi College BCom (Honors) and Economics (Honors) were at 97% and 98.50% respectively. At College of Vocational Studies the cutoff for BCom (Honors) was at 98 %, same as last year. At Ramanujan College, BCom (Programme) and BCom (Honors) were at 92 % and 95 % respectively.

Economics, which is taught in 50 colleges in the University, received 82,632 applications this year. BCom (Honors), which is taught in 29 colleges, received 82,090 applications.

Many had expected the cutoffs for the two streams to fall a little as compared to last year because of students’ poor performance in mathematics this time. However, high scores in subjects such as accountancy and physics meant that the cutoffs remained high.

Economics has traditionally been one of the favourite choices of science students in DU.
