The new president of the Delhi University Student’s Union, dreams of making DU a world class university. Ajay Chhikara, 23, a member of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) and a final year student at the Law Faculty says, “I want to make DU even better than colleges in US and UK. I’ll definitely work towards it.” His plans include making the campus comfortable for students of the LGBT community.

“All students are equal for me but I have heard that some students of the LGBT community face harassment on campus.I will try to make special cells which will address issues faced by them,” he says. Chhikara, who joined NSUI in 2005 is elated at his win. “I’m very happy that my victory has won the party the presidential post after three years,” he says.

Hailing from Bahadurgarh, Haryana, Chhikara says he’s not really into fashion, but loves wearing jeans. “I love wearing blue jeans with a white shirt, it’s what you can see me in most of the time. In fact, I think it’s the favourite attire of all the DUSU presidents, it’s what they all wear,” he says.

Though he now anticipates being very busy with his new responsibilities, Chhikara loves the outdoors when free. “I love going for picnics with my friends. Any destination is great as long as I’m with friends,” he says. Not a big fan of dining out, his one weakness is South Indian food. “I can eat idli and dosa for all my meals,” he laughs. A big fan of Sanjay Dutt, Chhikara says, “I love his style and attitude. He is a very cool actor.”
