Being held for the first time in India, Freedom of Caravan, a 10-day education fest, will be organised at major Delhi colleges like Hindu, Venkateshwara, St Stephens, Gargi and Janaki Devi Mahavidyalaya. This is an initiative of an independent, and non-profit New Delhi-based organisatio called Centre for Civil Society (CCS).
It is set to reach over 50,000 students in Delhi. The caravan will stop at various pre-planned locations where it will bring a street play, liberal literature and interactive activities.
In a novel concept, to promote awareness on "Capitalist Acts in Consenting Adults", among the tools utilized will be Freedom Caravan "Rickshaw" going from one college to another. According to CCS, even a poor man's rickshaw can be a sign of capitalism.
CCS will also organise Freedom Quiz besides Nukkar Natak and Music Concerts. There will also be a visual art competition --- Capitalism- Beauty or Beast – and the winner will have a chance to win Rs 45, 000 as prize money.
"What we're trying to do is promote new ideas and new leaders and create an intellectual revolution in the liberal direction. The youth are our future leaders, decision makers and policy makers who will control India's destiny," says Parth J Shah, President CCS.
The organisation has a website which says: "The Centre for Civil Society is an independent, non-profit, research and educational organisation devoted to improving the quality of life for all citizens of India by reviving and reinvigorating civil society."
"We are an ideas organisation, a think tank that develops ideas to better the world. We want to usher in an intellectual revolution that encourages people to look beyond the obvious, think beyond good intentions, and act beyond activism," says the 'About Us' write-up.
