With college admissions around the corner, it was no wonder that over 12,000 students attended the Hindustan Times Campus Calling counselling sessions held across Mumbai. The sessions took place in seven locations through the month of May, with more sessions being planned over the month of June. Students got a lowdown on courses, careers and educational institutions for arts, science and commerce. This year’s sessions also included one-on-one counseling. HTHorizons spoke to a few students to find out how these Campus Calling sessions have helped them make that all-important decision about their future. Young Buzz counsellor Qurratulain Kapasi, says,"This year, with the new centralised admission system, students have many questions about the admission process. also, they want to know which colleges to apply to.”

1. Saurav Kumar (13): Class 9, Ryan International School, Sanpada

I read about the counseling sessions in the newspaper and thought it would help me clear my mind about which stream to choose after Class 10. It did. I found the session quite interesting because I got to know about the scope and benefits of many courses, careers and colleges that one can get into after doing science in Class 12. I’m now sure that I will take up science with maths in Class 11.

2. Akansha Ganguly (16): Completed Class 12, DAV School, Panvel

I studied science with maths for my SSC. I wanted to know about all the options after science and the session helped me narrow my options down to medicine or BSc. I plan to give the All India Pre Medical Test. My main interest lies in biology and I came to understand the various degrees and job opportunities available in the field of biology.

3.Viraj Singal (16): Completed Class 10, Swami Vivekanand International School, Kandivali

I knew what I wanted to pursue in Class 11 but the session made my decision easier. I now know which professional courses can be taken up after doing commerce and how those degrees will help in getting me a job. I plan to apply to The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI) for graduation.

4.Kunal Mundra (15): Completed Class 10, Shreemati Sulochana Devi Singhania School, Thane

I have always wanted to do architecture but I didn’t know the education route to get there. I thought I would have had to do arts to get into this field but I realised at the counselling session that it is mandatory for me to do science with maths in order to get into architecture. This is the first time that I attended such a session and I learned a lot about other streams as well.

5. Prathamesh Ghankutkar (18): Completed Class 12, Patkar Junior College, Goregaon

In my Class 11 and 12, I studied science with maths. I was particularly interested in automobile engineering and it pleased me that this was the very first specialisation of engineering that the counsellor talked about. I now know a lot about the professional scope in this field. Another thing that I found useful is that they explain all the courses to get into a field and the duration of those courses.

6. Aayushi Tapiawala (15): Completed Class 10, Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan Vidyalaya, Malad

I want to get into interior designing which is not a very frequently talked about career. I came to the counselling session wanting to know the various options after all the streams- arts, science and commerce. I now know what else I can do and whether or not I would be interested in those fields. I am a little clearer now that I will take up the arts stream and also have an idea about the colleges that I would like to apply to.

7. Arzan Zarolia (15): Completed Class 10, St Stanislaus School, Bandra

I know I am interested in commerce and the counselling helped me understand the various course options and what all I can do in the field of commerce. I found that the presentations of the counsellors were very thorough and informative. There were these charts and lists that gave some useful statistics.

8. Ivy Fernandes (18): Completed Class 12, St Mary’s School, Mulund

I always thought that I wanted to pursue home science but after the HT Campus Calling session I realised that I have many options in the field of commerce too. I am quite good at mathematics and this will help me in my commerce studies. What I specifically found useful was the list of offbeat and vocational courses that the counsellor listed. Also, they explained what I can do for post-graduation after doing a BCom.

9. Mohit Awatramani (18) : Completed Class 12, Podar International School, Santacruz

I was in the science stream. I wanted to know about opportunities in civil law and chemical engineering. When I came here, I realised that counselling was definitely needed. Every detail was provided here and I am going back with a lot of information.

10.Vruddhi Shah (15): Completed Class 10, Shree Vallabh School, Sion

I want to know wanted to get clear about which stream and career to choose and the campus calling session helped me zero in on engineering. I now know the job prospects and branches in engineering and have thus decided to take up science with maths in Class 11.
