Lisa from Minnesota, USA had a problem — How does theatre function in Europe for her college dissertation on Performing Arts. To her rescue, came Illana Petrucci, an Italian theatre student who tutored her for two sessions.
Sounds like a usual tuition for Aneesha, except the sessions were online and they never met at all. All that these two did was to log onto a website www.tutorswithoutlimits.com, and the rest happened online.
Launched on September 1, the site now enjoys an enrolment of over 2,000 teachers. Teachers are excited about setting up their own tutoring business in this new eBay-like environment.
Tutors Without Limits (TWL) unleashes the entrepreneurial spirit in learning and teaching. Any teacher can set up his or her own tutoring business in minutes and for free. With TWL, tutors can offer their services directly to students all over the globe.
As America starts school in September, parents and students will be able to find help at any time of day or night. US students have been paying $40 an hour on average for tutoring but last year, Indian call centers just started offering tutoring services ranging from $14 to $20 an hour.
The floodgates for Educational Services Outsourcing (ESO) are now open. With Tutors Without Limits, tutors will be offering their services directly to students at prices they determine. The TWL marketplace will quickly sort services based on quality, content, qualifications, and recommendations.
In TWL, students can have questions answered while doing their homework with only a few clicks. With TWL’s eBay like environment, parents can choose tutors at a cost they can afford and obviously with online tutoring, there are no commuting or scheduling problems.
The online tutoring experience preserves the student’s identity and parents can not only watch the tutoring sessions, parents can review their child’s tutoring session at any point of time.
The service is in Beta testing mode and is hence available only to US students. By November 1, students all around the world can be in touch with tutors from different parts of the globe.
