It was a memorable evening when film actor Shah Rukh Khan walked into the premises of New College at the University of Edinburgh to deliver a lecture. Enlisting his life lessons one-by-one, King Khan’s words were an inspiration to youngsters.
A subtle entry onto the stage, wearing a black tuxedo, a charismatic smile and humility on his face, the star actor left the audience excited and cheering aloud. Shah Rukh started with the lecture, sharing his life lessons and anecdotes from his film career.
The lessons which got me thinking were: “It’s okay to be confused! Confusion is the way to clarity; an act of goodness becomes worthless when you sign a brownie point to yourself; everything evolves as you go along; love yourself and praise all that life has in store for you; and (the best one) live now, live today.
“You may not see it with your youthful eyes, but now is as much time as you will ever get, because tomorrow we’ll all be dead! And just in case there’s no cycle of rebirth etc why take a chance,” the actor added.
These lessons were followed by the only intellectual thing he knows how to do (as claimed by him during the session) – the lungi dance! This ended with a photography session with the audience.
In the end, I would like to thank Shah Rukh Khan for investing his time and energy in enlightening us with his experiences in one of the most interesting ways. Also, heartiest congratulations on being rewarded an honorary doctorate from the university.
