Xavier’s Institute of Communication
XIC is an autonomous unit of the St Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and runs professional media courses for post-graduates. The diploma courses on offer are journalism, public relations, film production, advertising and marketing and Marathi journalism.
Who is eligible: Graduates who want to pursue a career in the media.
Admission process: All candidates have to appear for a written entrance test and an interview round to secure admission. These will be held in June, and will test you on 4 major sections - General Knowledge, Current affairs, Creativity and Communication skills. Deadline: Between March 15 and April 15

Russell Square International College (RSIC)
RSIC is the only institution in Mumbai to be affiliated with the University of London. It offers degree and diploma programmes, and has official ‘permission to teach’ the diploma in economics and the diploma in social sciences by the London School of Economics and Political Science, such that the programme is formulated, developed and tested by the LSE faculty. There’s also an option for students to continue studies at a British university if they meet the requirements. In addition to the diploma programmes, the degrees on offer are BSc in accounting, banking and finance, business, economics and international relations.
Who is eligible: Candidates above 17 years of age that have completed Class 12 with 80% in at least 4 academic subjects and 50% in math Admission process: Candidates must appear for a 3-hour written test – 2 hours English and 1 hour math. Within 10 days of the test, selected candidates will be called for interviews.
Deadline: Applications are accepted until 15 days of the HSC results being declared.

Raffles Design International
Raffles Design International is an institute that offers various programmes in design, including fashion design, fashion marketing, interior design, multimedia design, product design and graphic design. Students can also opt for a 3-year progression programme and be awarded a Bachelor of Design degree from Raffles College of Design and Commerce, Sydney. There are 4 intakes through the year, for terms that commence in January, April, July and October.
Who is eligible: Completion of Class 12 from a recognised board. Students that have completed only up to Class 10 will have to sit for an aptitude test. A minimum TOEFL score of 173 or an IELTS score of 6.0 is necessary for non-native English speakers. Admission process: Students have to complete a written exam and go through a personal interview to secure admission.
Deadline: 19th March for the April intake, 1st week of April for the July intake.

Bombay Stock Exchange Training Institute
The Training Institute at the BSE has introduced a new programme due to popular demand, a full-time MBA in financial markets in partnership with the Indira Gandhi National Open University. Classes will be conducted in the BSE building, and students will be exposed to real-time trading, the process of company listing and will have access to professional lecturers.
Who is eligible: Graduates with 50% or more.
Admission process: Candidates will have to give the BSE Training Institute entrance exam, which is modeled on the CAT. CAT scores are also applicable. The test will be 3 hours with verbal and numeric sections and will be held on March 27.

Jawaharlal Nehru University’s (JNU) School of Computer & Systems Science attracts up to 10,000 applicants for its Masters in Computer Application (MCA) course - those from Inida and the neighbouring SAARC countries as well. The three-year MCA provides an equal degree of practical and theoretical knowledge. Well-renowned for its computer science education, students have been placed in companies like IBM, Siemens, HP, Accenture, GE Caps, etc.
Admission process: Applicants will have write the MCA entrance exam which is scheduled to be held on May 18, 2011 (9.00 A.M. to 12 Noon). The syllabus will include 10+2/graduate level math, graduate level computer science and general aptitude questions.

Aspirants pursuing a graduation degree at Symbiosis must write the symbiosis entrance test-SET (with the exception of institute of technology and health sciences aspirants.) SET has five different papers, namely -general, design, law, engineering and health sciences. The application procedure for each department differs and each department has its own selection procedure.
Admission Process: The exam will take place on May 7. The test fee for the SET is Rs 1,500. Law, engineering and health sciences will be held from 9.30 am - 12.00 pm and general and design SET from 2.30 pm-5.00 pm. More details specific to your course preference are available on the website.

UPSC Civil Services
Those wishing to pursue IAS/IPS have to give the All India Combined Competitive Examination for the Civil Services conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The syllabus of the preliminary exam has been revised for the year 2011. The first stage of the examination will have an aptitude test, instead of the optional subject. The Civil Services Aptitude Test CSAT (earlier known as the Civil Services Preliminary Examination) will be followed by the main exam and a interview.
Admission process: Applications for the civil services preliminary exams scheduled for June 12 are still open. All applications end on March 21. However, candidates living abroad or in certain remote areas might apply by March 28.

Who is eligible: A degree from a recognised university. Final-year students who will be graduates by the time of writing the main exam may also apply. Candidates must be at least 2-years-old by the time they write the exam. Candidates from general category must not be older than 30 years.

Indian Institute of Forest Management
IIFM is ranked second among the sectoral management schools in India. The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is a doctoral programme designed to develop and equip students for career opportunities in management education and research in applied computer technology and quantitative techniques; forestry and ecosystem management etc…
Admission Process: Applicants must be less than 45 years old as of July 1, 2011. Candidates with the required CAT/GMAT scores (as decided by IIFM); UGC-CSIR-JRF/NET or GATE or ICAR JRF (scores not older than 5 years); or qualified FRI entrance test for PhD (two years old); or candidates who have obtained a PGDFM/PGDM from IIFM/IIM with a minimum OGPA of 3.00 or MRM students of IIFM with 3.00 CGPA; or all India and allied services officers, officers in scale II of nationalised banks and officers of equivalent rank of PSUs can apply directly. Candidates without the required scores but with five years of experience are eligible for internal tests which will be followed by group discussions and personal interviews. The latter will be held over April and May.

Who is eligible: A bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks, a Masters degree (minimum two years prescribed duration after 10+2+3 years of formal education) in a relevant discipline (relevancy as decided by the IIFM) with at least 55% marks, including five years/four year integrated masters degree programme; or B.Tech/B.E. with 60% marks or equivalent OGPA; or a professional qualification like CA, ICWA, CS with at least 55%.

A decade old and with 70 centres across India, MAAC offers a BA in 3D animation and visual effects in association with IGNOU. Entry into this course is via a basic aptitude test consisting of MCQ, basic math and visual reasoning. Admission process: The candidates need to give the entrance aptitude tests, which are conducted as per the convenience of the students.
