Students from IIT Kharagpur have finished among top 10 at a global investment banking competition in London this year. The team is the only one from India to have achieved this feat. Every year, over 5,000 candidates from across the world participate in the Global Investment Banking Valuation Olympiad, which is organized in partnership with Greensea Capital. The teams participate in a three-stage competition where they get their valuation skills tested to the limit.

Greensea Capital LLP has sustainable objective and expertise in green global social domain like Clean Energy, Agriculture and Education. It transacts about US$5+billion across Americas, Europe, Asia and MENA and has strong network and execution experience in Brazil, China, India and Russia. The students’ team from IIT Kharagpur presented a sell side pitch on the acquisition of TVS Motors by Bajaj Auto. The presentations was highly appreciated by the organizers. The fact that students, who despite coming from engineering background, competed so well against B-schools was lauded.

The team worked independently without any faculty supervision. However, the institute facilitated the students for participating in the contest. Also, the alumni community in London lent their support. A statement from the team said, “Participation in international events should be further encouraged as it provides students an opportunity to showcase their talent and apply their skills to real world problems. It also helps one build a strong network and gain global exposure.”

“The competition was a tremendous learning experience and we were really happy to have got an opportunity to go to London,” said Aditi Sharma, a member of the KGP team.
