Candidates who fail to clear the Karnataka pre-university or Class 12 main examination (Karnataka II PUC) get another chance to clear it by appearing in the supplementary examination.

The Karnataka II PUC Main exams were conducted from March 9 to March 27 this year and its results were declared on May 11.

Only 52.38% of candidates passed the II Pre-University College (12th) exam in Karnataka this year. It is the lowest pass percentage since 2012. The pass percentage was 57.2% last year.

A total of 6,79,061 candidates had appeared for the exams, of whom 5,43,443 were appearing for the first time. Among these, 59.9% passed, while only 22.8% of the 1,05,335 private candidates passed and only 20.14% of the 30,283 persons who were appearing again passed, information of the Department of Pre-University Education revealed.

Girls outclassed boys with 60.28% of them passing compared to 44.74% of boys. However, the pass percentage among both groups was significantly lower than last year, when 64.78% girls and 50.02% boys passed.

The Department of Pre-University, Government of Karnataka implements higher secondary education in the state. It functions under the department of primary and secondary education and has 1,202 government pre-university colleges, 637 aided pre-university colleges, 1,936 unaided pre-university colleges, 165 bifurcated pre-university colleges and 13 corporation pre-university colleges.

About 10 lakh students enroll in pre-university courses every year in Karnataka and DPUE offers 23 subjects, 11 languages and 50 combinations for the pre-university curriculum for class 11 and 12 students.
