A student of Lucknow’s Arts College has developed a cycle that not only helps in a complete body workout but can also be used as an eco-friendly mode of transport to cover small distances.
“It took me about two years to design and develop this cycle. Two years ago, I joined a gym to lose weight. I was asked to work on an elliptical machine. I thought of developing a cycle that can be used for exercising as well as a means of transport,” Syed Mohd Faizan, a first-year student of visual arts, said.
Faizan’s ‘fun elliptic’, as he has named the cycle, has all the essential features of an elliptical machine used in a gym. He has also added a few more features to make it useful for those who love cycling.
His machine does not have a seat and a person has to stand and do the balancing act until the time they want to pedal.
“I have purposely removed the seat. There is no point of exercising while sitting. I’m enjoying this machine as I hate exercising within the four walls of the gym with no fresh air around. While I ride this cycle, I breathe fresh air and do many other things like buying the morning bread and butter from a store close to my home,” he said.
The 20-year-old said his cycle’s big gear helps the rider achieve faster speed and it burns more calories at a faster rate than normal running.
“There is no need to spend hours in the gym to lose weight. It’s channel and slide technology helps in an overall smooth workout. Moreover, riding this cycle is also fun,” he said.
