Success means different things to different people. For some it is fame, for others it is money, and some feel that having a great social life is being successful! What is your definition of success? Does it include the means as well as the goals? If it does, then it is a holistic view of success.
Do you know what makes your heart sing? What is it that makes you joyful? Are there any moments in your life when you get so involved with what you are doing that you lose track of time? These are your moments of success. Savour them.
Many people say that in our current business environment, it is not possible to convert our joyful pursuits into a money-making profession. The environment just does not have the eyes to see let alone use our gifts, say the cynics.
What if you could change this environment into one where your natural talents could become your major assets? What comes naturally to you can be turned into a profitable offering. Think about it. Visualise this scenario. Can you believe in the impossible? Can you nurture your big dreams and realise them?
Actually, doing this is not as difficult as you think. First of all, you have to understand what gives you the most pleasure. You have to connect with your most natural gifts. Once you have done that, you can think of ways to package and market these talents. However, you will be successful only if your intentions are to serve and uplift others.
You see, our natural talents have been given to us to help each other grow. That is the key point. While helping others, we also end up helping ourselves and making a decent living. It is a win-win symbiotic situation that the universe had in mind while giving us our natural talents. If you look at nature, you will find this principle working very effectively. All you have to do is observe and learn.
In our society, we are so focused on some outdated notions of success that our natural gifts can often become a source of our discomfort, even embarrassment. We are taught to curb our natural enthusiasm for pursuits considered unrealistic and impractical.
Our parents and teachers keep harping on the idea that marks/grades in exams are our ticket to success. In the process, our real talent gets buried. No wonder, most of us are so unhappy doing what we do.
We are like square pegs in round holes. We are not aligned with our life’s purpose, because we are not aligned with our own gifts.
It is time to change all that. It is time to cultivate new ways of using our talents. Each one of us has a shining diamond inside us. We need to dig deep to find it and polish it.
And for that, we need to completely focus on that diamond. Remember, YOU are the most important person in your life. YOU are your greatest asset. If you won’t value your talents, you can’t expect others to value them. Invest in your talent, nurture it, and celebrate the success it brings you.
This success will be in complete alignment with you. This success will encompass not only money, but also an overall sense of well-being, a sense of purpose and a lifestyle that resonates with your innermost core.
