Satvat Jagwani, a resident of Satna in Madhya Pradesh, has secured the top spot in IIT-JEE (Advanced) examinations this year.
Son of a doctor couple, Satvat, who took coaching in Kota's Bansal Classes, has scored 469 out of 504. He appeared in the examination from the IIT-Kanpur zone.
Satvat, along with his father Dr Manoj Jagwani, a senior paediatrician, and mother Dr Bhumika Jagwani were on their way to Kota when they talked to HT on phone on Wednesday night.
"I am extremely happy. I was confident about securing a rank in the IIT-JEE exams," said Satvat, who wants to pursue computer science from IIT-Mumbai.
Satvat said he did not have a fixed routine, but whenever he studied he did so with full concentration.
Satvat, who had physics, chemistry and mathematics as his subjects in Class 12 exams - in which he appeared this year, said he attributed his success to his parents and teachers.
Talking about his hobbies, Satvat, a student of Nalanda Public Senior Secondary School, said he loves playing Sudoku and reading books. Physics and mathematics are his favourite subjects.
His mother told HT that she was pleased with the performance of her son. She said Satvat had to shuttle between Kota and Satna for two years to attend his school as well as coaching classes.
Kota's Bansal Classes too were elated with Satvat's success.
"This is the fifth occasion in the last 16 years when a student from this institute has topped the IIT-JEE Examination," said a beaming Pramod Kumar Bansal, the chief executive officer of Bansal Classes in Kota.
