The lowdown
Illnesses, addictions, phobias... a clinical hypnotherapist has a cure for all kinds of ailments. Hypnosis is a state in which your logical and analytical faculties of the conscious mind are reduced sufficiently to allow access to the deeper levels of your subconscious and utilised for health benefits. According to Dr Yogesh Choudhary, who runs the Indian Institute of Hypnotherapy, every one can tanscend to this state.“We actually experience this all the time. There is a point when, while watching a film or daydreaming, everything else ceases to register, even if only for a moment. This is an example of light trance state-of-mind, a self-induced hypnotic state.” You relax and that’s exactly what hypnosis does to you. Hypnotherapists seek to expand this momentary lapse to an intense, deeper, experience. A lot of people feel that hypnosis has a lot to do with spirituality but the reality is that it’s all about the science of the brain. “Hypnosis and hypnotherapy are not magical states or forms of mind control, they are natural processes, which have been utilised for deep relaxation, inner guidance, healing and counselling,” says Choudhary
