Even though most schools in the Capital already have a fully functional math labs, the NCERT is leaving no stone unturned to remove ‘math phobia’ from the mind of students.
The NCERT that came up with a model math laboratory in 1998 has now decided to sensitise teachers and students on how to use math labs. “The Council has already conducted sensitisation and awareness programmes in 12 states on the utility of math labs and its target to take the project to the remaining states this year,” said head of mathematics department at NCERT, Prof Hukum Singh.
The CBSE has already made math labs mandatory in schools and currently, practicals are held for classes III to IX.
According to the Board, the activities are meant to help students in numerical and observation skills and understanding logic. “All you need for this is thermocol and a few instruments,” added Singh.
