New PGD in healthcare mgmt

Mumbai-based Welingkar Institute of Management is soon introducing a postgraduate diploma programme in healthcare management. The 11-month programme is open to candidates with MBBS, BDS, BPharm, MPharm, BAMS, BEMS, BSc, BCom, BA, and BMS (with one-two years' experience) degrees.

Open source software courses
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), its Advanced Centre for Informatics & Innovative Learning and IBM India signed a memorandum of understanding at Bangalore to reinvent IT education. The programmes planned in the first phase under the MoU are: Certificate in open source software, diploma in open source software and industry vertical domain open standards and advanced diploma in industry vertical domain open standards (healthcare/ retail/ insurance). The partners attempt to enable day one deployment through the initiative.

The Innovation Centre for Open Standards (iCos), an online platform, will be the underlying framework for IBM and IGNOU's collaboration to deliver the courses. The IBM iCos platform will be integrated into IGNOU's in-house developed, soon-to-be-launched Unified Learning Platform in due course.

International contest to fund maths park
A mega international oral maths competition will be organised this November to test the problem solving abilities of school going students. To be organised by Magic Methods (an institute which propagates vedic maths), the event is expected to draw more than one lakh students from 30,000 schools in India and abroad. The quiz would test the students in their oral mathematics skills. Students can apply through their schools and can demonstrate their prowess to bag the coveted prize. "The winner will win Rs one lakh, a laptop, a gold coin and a four day trip to Germany," says Dr Pradeep Kumar, director of Magical Methods. The registration fee is Rs 100 per student.

Refresher course at Amity
Amity Institute of Education, New Delhi jointly with Maastricht School of Management, Netherlands started two-week refresher course titled "Training the trainers in executive education” from July 13- 23, 2009 at Amity University, Sector- 125, Noida. The course is funded by NUFFIC (Netherlands Universities Foundation for International Cooperation).
