IGNOU announces walk-in admissions
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced walk-in admissions for its distance learning programmes at master’s, bachelor’s, post graduate diploma, diploma, postgraduate certificate and certificate level round the year for July 2011 session.

The students are required to purchase the admission form from their concerned regional centres or from the Student Registration Division in Block-3 of IGNOUs headquarters on payment of R100 in cash at the sale counter.

The last date for certificate programmes and bachelor preparatory programmes (BPP) is May 31 2011 for the July 2011 session.

The last date for all diploma, PG diploma, bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes is July 29, 2011. while for all other Individuals desiring of obtaining the student hand book and prospectus by post can get it by sending a demand draft in favour of ‘IGNOU,’ payable at New Delhi to the Registrar, Student Registration Division, Block-3, IGNOU headquarters.

Similarly, students residing outside Delhi can obtain the student handbook and prospectus on payment of R100 from their concerned regional centres. If they wish to receive it by post then they have to send a demand draft of R150 to the Regional Director, IGNOU regional centre, payable at the concerned regional centre.

The programmes are being coordinated by 21 schools of the university, namely, agriculture, computer and information sciences, continuing education, education, engineering and technology, extension and development studies, foreign languages, gender and development studies, health sciences, humanities, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary studies, journalism and new media studies, law, management studies, performing and visual arts, science, social sciences, social work, translation studies, tourism and hospitality services sectoral management and lastly vocational education and training.

Also, there is Centre for Corporate Education, Training and Consultancy, Centre for Extension Education, Chair for Education and Sustainable Development, Educational Development of North Eastern Region Unit, Regional Centre Chennai, Regional Center Delhi I, Staff Training and Research Institute of Distance Education, National Centre for Disability Studies, Advanced Centre for Informatics and Innovative learning, Centre for Paramedical sciences and Computer Division offering plethora of courses.

IGNOU launches UG and PG programmes with FDDI
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched five undergraduate and three postgraduate programmes in collaboration with the Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI).

The eight new programmes viz, M Sc (fashion merchandizing and retail management), M Sc (footwear technology), M Sc (creative designing CAD/CAM), M. Sc. (leather goods and accessories design), M. Sc. (visual merchandizing and communication design), B Sc (fashion merchandizing and retail management), B Sc (footwear technology) and B Sc (leather goods and accessories design) have been launched keeping in mind an urgent need to orient footwear industries and their R & D laboratories to initiate new educational programmes to upgrade the knowledge of practicing workers, semi-skilled and skilled personnel in footwear industries keeping in view the demands of technological revolution at work place.

The cost of prospectus along with the admission form is R1000 and is available at the FDDI campus in Noida, Rae Bareilly, Chennai and Kolkata. The prospectus can also be procured from 55 locations through reputed banks across India (details of banks and branches are available at www.FddiIndia.com). Students can also send a demand draft of R1000 in favour of FDDI payable at New Delhi to FDDI Noida to procure the prospectus through courier or can also download from FDDIs website. Last date for submission of admission forms is May 19, 2011.

“These programmes will open new avenues for students and will help in producing trained man power for export-oriented industries working in field of footwear, leather and other allied products,” said Prof VN Rajasekharan Pillai, VC, IGNOU.

“Under this collaboration FDDI will impart full time training at their six campuses across India located at Noida, Fursatganj, Chennai, Kolkata, Rohtak & Chindwara. IGNOU, along with collaborative partner FDDI, will maintain the quality of all these eight programmes so that the students after getting rigorous and intensive teaching and training will be an asset for the organisations where they will serve. IGNOU will be offering degrees to the students in these collaborative programmes in niche area of footwear design, leather goods and accessories designing and retail management on successful completion of the programme,” he added. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director FDDI, says, “With the increase in the branches of FDDI and in view of the increase in students’ strength it became imperative to provide a degree to the students to bring FDDI programmes at par with universities.
