NIIT and IIMs have joined hands to launch NIIT Imperia, which will provide management education to working executives.
NIIT Imperia, Centre for Advanced Learning, will offer multiple diploma programmes from the Indian Institute of Management at Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Indore, using synchronous learning technology.
“Now remote centres of the country will be connected through synchronous learning technology that will provide management education to professionals. We intend to start with six centres and will soon expand to 75 centres in the next five years,” said Rajendra S Pawar, chairman, NIIT, at the launch of the institute in the Capital on Wednesday.
The Synchronous Learning technology enables classrooms to be connected live with the faculty teaching in the institutes. It replicates face-to-face teaching with the help of a two-way audio-video and special software.
The institute has already set up NIIT Imperia in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad. NIIT Imperia will offer long and short-term programmes ranging from four months to a year to professionals with two to 10 years experience.
The admission will be conducted through a Programme Aptitude Test (PAT). The content, teaching and certification will be provided by one of the participating IIMs and the technology, synchronous classrooms will be provided by NIIT.
Talking about the public-private partnership, Prof Bakul Dholakia, director, IIM-A said, “There is a need to provide management education to a large number of working class. Our partnership with NIIT will try to fill the existing lacunae,” he added.
