Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, will conduct online counselling for admission to a nursing course on July 20. During the process, 1,596 candidates will vie for 975 seats in 109 colleges across the state. About 3,500 candidates had taken the exam — the Punjab Para Medical Entrance Test (PPMET-2017) on Sunday. Only 46% (1,596 cleared the exam).

In all nursing courses of various durations and pedigree, the BFUHS is offering 4,350 seats.

A senior varsity official said that despite very low pass percentage of the students, the private colleges give admission to even those candidates who couldn’t pass the entrance test. “There are numerous vacant seats in nursing and not many could pass. Unfortunately, eventually all students get admissions. Students should get admissions on their merit.”

BFUHS V-C Dr Raj Bahadur said, “Nursing colleges must reduce the number of seats and concentrate on ensuring better training.” In private nursing colleges, 15% seats are reserved for NRI candidates in private nursing colleges and 50% quota is for management seats. At private colleges, the annual fee is Rs 40,000 as compared to Rs 12,000 in government colleges.
