With Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, revising the merit list of the May 17 Pre-Medical Entrance Test (PMET-2015) after directions from the Punjab and Haryana high court issued on Tuesday, Panchkula lad Sanchit Singla is now the new topper with 640 marks, replacing Savi, a Rajpura resident, who is now second on the list.

The change resulted after four questions — numbers 19, 26 and 47 and 71 — were found to have errors/discrepancies, meaning that there could have been a potential change of 16 marks in the final score of the examinee. The university had accepted the fact of the discrepancies and decided to add marks based on the number of ‘correct’ answers as held by it now. Two questions had been cancelled before the matter reached the high court.

According to the revised merit list issued on Wednesday on the varsity website, Sanchit Singla from Panchkula, who was previously on second position with 624 marks added 16 marks and with a score of 640 is the new PMET-2015 topper.

The candidate he displaced from the pole position, Savi from Rajpura, could only add 12 marks and dropped to second position with 636 marks. For rank-wise change among top-10, please see box.

Interestingly, in some cases there has been a drop in rank even after the addition of marks. Consider this, a candidate Lashika had previously scored 576 marks to rank 174, but as per the new list, she has dropped to 244 rank even as she improved her score by 580 marks.

In another case, a candidate Tanvir has previously scored 572 marks to rank 206; however, on the new merit list, he added 16 marks to jump to the 169th rank with 588 marks.
