Hardiljit Singh Gosal, a senator, had earlier said that colleges are neither mentally/physically prepared for the new system, nor do they have the infrastructure to implement it. Similarly, Dr Vipul Narang, another senator, had argued that teachers are not prepared for CBCS and that it should be implemented at a later date.

On the other hand, advocating CBCS vice-chancellor Professor Arun Kumar Grover had said that the University Grants Commission has written a letter to PU stating that if CBCS is introduced, the university will have permission to start many online courses.

The choice-based credit system allows students to choose interdisciplinary, intradisciplinary courses and skill-oriented papers (even from other disciplines according to learning needs, interests).

Chief vigilance officer to submit report on 33 cases

Besides the recommendations of the academic council, the chief vigilance officer (CVO) will also submit a summary of 33 different cases wherein vigilance probe is on.

In the last meeting, Dr Dalip Kumar had pointed out that there are 33 summary reports which need to be taken up by the senate. Following this, the VC had constituted a committee to study these reports.

Some of the reports that will be tabled before the senate by the chief vigilance officer include the complaint filed by Professor VK Chopra alleging irregularities in the rate of contracts for supply of electrical/electronic goods for the university; the relationship of dean student welfare with the firm which was awarded the contract to outsource certain services in 2015; the email received from the office of the registrar about leaking information from the office of dean university instructions; complaint against the examiner who evaluated more than the prescribed number of answer sheets and claimed double local conveyance for the same day in annual exams in 2014.

Besides this, the senate will also discuss a representation made by teachers demanding an increase in payment for setting question papers for different courses.
