1 Soothing alarm: Choose some great music for your alarm, not a rude beep or ring, which can be jarring on the nerves. Choose the most soothing, melodious one. It will ensure you wake up happy

2 Run straight for the washroom: Once you’re up, the best way to get wide awake is to rush to the loo and get the toothbrush out. Every thought of sleep is banished once you get a taste of your minty-fresh toothpaste and try out your best smile in the mirror

3 The hotter the better: Hot water means an invigorating bath. The last vestiges of sleep clouding your mind will vanish. A loofah and a nicely perfumed body wash should gear you up for a great day ahead

4 Switch on that blower: Keep the blower on in your room when you pop into the shower. Your room will be warm and comforting once you get out and start to dress

5 Get the kettle whistling: An electric kettle can be great for coffee and tea. You just need to have a tin of cocoa handy for the hot chocolate drink

6 Some eggs and hot, crunchy toast? Hot buttered toast or juices are easy to make. Make sure the breakfast is nutritious enough – and take pride in the fact that you can put it together yourself without waking up your mom early

7 Keep the woollies ready: Your clothes should be kept ready at night. Pull on the thermals, scarf, pullover and jacket, and go, go, go

8 What about a good pair of walking shoes? There’s nothing like a brisk walk once you’re out of the house

9 Grab that paper: Carry the newspaper with you. If you’re taking the Metro or bus, catch up with the news on the way

10 Take that train or bus: Save petrol, save the earth. Public transport is the answer to most problems like traffic jams.
